Cold Smoke Women's Series: Intermediate Ski Touring

The second program in the Series is designed for women with some backcountry experience who want to advance their knowledge in planning and safe travel techniques . By the end of this 4.5 to 7 day program, participants will:_womens_ski_program

  • be familiar with Avalanche Danger Ratings verification techniques for personal use
  • be familiar with the ATES technical model as a means to develop personal, local terrain ratings
  • use route finding to identify nuances in terrain to manage personal risk
  • use travel techniques in avalanche terrain appropriate to the avalanche conditions
  • proficiently carry out a companion rescue
  • understand limits of training to enhance decision‐making skills
  • optional Level 2 Avalanche Skills Training certification (recognized by the CAA)

Location: Revelstoke and Rogers Pass, BC

Prerequisites

Participants should have strong skiing abilities and have the ability to tour for up to 8 hours with a 30 litre pack u p to 4,000 feet (1200 meters). Previous ski touring experience is required and a Level 1 Avalanche Skills Training course is strongly recommended.

Instructors & Group Size

The instructors/guides are certified by the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, Canadian Avalanche Association, and Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance and are passionate about sharing their love for the mountain environment. Cold Smoke Guiding Services maintains low instructor to student ratios to ensure that individual needs are met. The maximum course size is 10 participants.
